A new poll from NBC News shows former President Donald Trump to be the front-runner among Republican voters, despite his recent indictment charges.

The poll found 51% of GOP voters would vote for Trump if the election was held today, while 22% said they would vote for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) and 7% said they would vote for former Vice President Mike Pence.

Trump was indicted in early June and charged with 37 federal counts of conspiring to obstruct justice, providing false statements, and for the mishandling of classified documents, according to Politico.

“Not only are they sticking with Trump post-federal indictment,” Jeff Horwitt, a pollster with Hart Research Associates told NBC News, “there are several signs that his support is growing or others are losing ground.”

While half of Republicans have said they would vote for Trump in the election, when voters were asked who they would vote for between President Joe Biden and Trump, 49% of voters said they would vote for Biden, and 45% said they would vote for Trump.

When asked who they would vote for between Biden and DeSantis if the election were held today, it was a tie. With 47% picking Biden and 47% picking DeSantis.

Similar polls have also shown Trump overtaking DeSantis. In a poll from Quinnipiac University from May 24, 61% of voters said they would vote for Trump, while 32% said they would vote for DeSantis.

DeSantis has been speculated to be a top contender among the growing list of candidates vying to win the Republican primary in the 2024 Presidential election.

When asked by a reporter on Thursday if DeSantis would support Trump if he was selected to be the nominee, DeSantis said Trump was “full of it” and that he is “saying things that are false.”
