Almost a third of Republicans are confident former President Donald Trump will be reinstated as president this year, according to a poll.

A new Politico/Morning Consult poll, conducted between June 4 and 7, asked respondents how likely they think it is “that former President Donald Trump will be reinstated as U.S. President this year, if at all?”

Seventeen percent of Republicans say it is “very likely,” while 12% say it is “somewhat likely.” Among Democrats, only 7% believe it is “very likely,” and 6% think it is “somewhat likely.” Of independents, 17% believe it is “very likely” or “somewhat likely.”

New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman reported earlier this month that Trump has told people he expects to be reinstated to the presidency this year, as IJR reported.

“Trump has been telling a number of people he’s in contact with that he expects he will get reinstated by August,” Haberman tweeted, adding, “No that isn’t how it works but simply sharing the information.”

Trump’s daughter-in-law Lara Trump dismissed his claim, as IJR reported.

When asked about the reported belief during a Fox News interview, Lara Trump responded, “As far as I know, there are no plans for Donald Trump to be in the White House in August. Maybe there’s something I don’t know.”

She continued, “I think that that is a lot of folks getting a little worked up about something just because maybe there wasn’t enough push back from the Republican side. So, no, I have not heard any plans for Donald Trump to be installed in the White House in August.”

The poll also found 59% of Republicans believe Trump should “play a major role in the Republican Party” while 21% said he should play a minor role.
