Norbi, a New York police dog, was stabbed while apprehending a burglar Wednesday. According to the New York Post, the suspect stabbed Norbi 12 times, but the police dog is expected to make a full recovery.

Multiple members of the Troy Police Department lined up outside of the Upstate Veterinary Specialties in Latham to show their support for Norbi, per WTEN News.

Norbi walked out of the clinic on foot with bandages around his torso. He received applause before jumping into a canine squad car to be transported home.

Norbi was injured when he and his partner pursued a man who was allegedly breaking into homes early Wednesday morning. Norbi bit the suspect, and the man turned and stabbed him multiple times in the torso.

The suspect was apprehended and taken to the hospital to be treated for the dog bite. Meanwhile, Norbi was rushed to the animal hospital and treated for his stab wounds.

The suspect later limped into court and pleaded not guilty. He was placed in jail without bail, and Norbi went from “critical but stable condition” to walking out of the veterinary clinic within the same day.

The Troy Police Department commended Norbi’s service and stated, “Canine Norbi is expected to make a full recovery and will be returning to active duty after a period of rest and rehabilitation.”

The department also expressed gratitude for Norbi’s care and support in an Instagram post: “The Troy Police Department would like to express our deepest gratitude to the veterinary staff at Upstate Veterinary Services for their outstanding care and expertise in treating Canine Norbi’s injuries. We are also immensely grateful for the overwhelming support and well-wishes from our community during this challenging time.”
