Stacy Wakefield, who lost her husband, Major League Baseball player, Tim Wakefield, just five months ago, has died.

She was 53.

Tim Wakefield, 57, and a two-time World Series champion, died in October 2023.

The Boston Red Sox announced her death Wednesday in a press release.

“It is with deep sadness that we share that our beloved mother, daughter, sister, niece, and aunt, Stacy, passed away today at her home in Massachusetts,” the Wakefield family said in the statement. “She was surrounded by her family and dear friends, as well as her wonderful caretakers and nurses. The loss is unimaginable, especially in the wake of losing Tim just under five months ago. Our hearts are beyond broken.”

“We will remember Stacy as a strong, loving, thoughtful and kind person, who was as down-to-earth as they come. We feel so lucky to have had her in our lives, and we take comfort in the fact that she will be reunited with Tim, the love of her life,” the statement continued.

The Wakefields were diagnosed with different kinds of cancer.

Curt Schilling, Tim Wakefield’s former teammate, said on a podcast — without permission — that Tim had brain cancer and Stacy had pancreatic cancer, according to the Associated Press.

This prompted the Red Sox to issue a statement seeking privacy for the couple, according to People.

“We are aware of the statements and inquiries about the health of Tim and Stacy Wakefield,” the team said. “Unfortunately, this information has been shared publicly without their permission. Their health is a deeply personal matter they intended to keep private as they navigate treatment and work to tackle this disease.”

The statement continued, “Tim and Stacy are appreciative of the support and love that has always been extended to them and respectfully ask for privacy at this time.”

In addition to winning the World Series twice, Tim Wakefield played 19 years in the MBL — playing for the Red Sox and the Pittsburgh Pirates, was a 2009 AL All-Star won the 2010 Roberto Clemente Award, according to People.

Both of the Wakefields were known for doing charitable causes in the community.

“Stacy worked alongside her husband in raising money for multiple charitable groups, including the Red Sox Foundation. They also worked with the Jimmy Fund, visiting with patients and raising funds for the childhood cancer charity,” the AP reported.

The couple first married in 2002 and had two children — Trevor, 19, and Brianna, 17.
