House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is looking forward to potentially working with a Democratic president in just a few months.

Polls currently show Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden leading President Donald Trump nationally and in key battleground states. Despite Biden’s steady national lead, some Democrats fret that Trump could shock the country with another upset victory.

However, speaking to reporters on Thursday, Pelosi signaled that she is optimistic about Biden’s chances, “We are ready. I feel very confident that Joe Biden will be elected president on Tuesday.”

“Whatever the end count is on the election that occurs on Tuesday, he will be elected, on January 20 he will be inaugurated president. So, while we don’t want to be overconfident or assume anything, we have to be ready for how we’re going to go down a different path,” she added.

A reporter asked Pelosi if she would work with Trump — if he lost — during his last months in office to pass a smaller coronavirus relief bill, with an eye to passing a larger bill after Biden is inaugurated.

She responded, “We’re not talking size. We’re talking quality. And we are not going to take a small bill that has the bulk of reinforcing funds to the richest people in America while questioning the integrity of people on unemployment insurance.”

Still, she said she wants to pass a COVID-19 relief bill.

While Pelosi said she feels confident about Biden’s chances, some Democrats are less optimistic about the outcome.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) told CNN’s Anderson Cooper, “I am cautiously optimistic.”

“I am going to work as hard as I can. I think Biden stands a very good chance of winning,” he added.

Still, he said he is not “overly confident” about the outcome.
