House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said she is not wasting her time on any questions about House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.).

When asked for her reaction to McCarthy saying he didn’t watch Tuesday’s Jan 6. select committee hearing, Pelosi replied to CNN’s Daniella Diaz, “Anytime you mention his name, you’re not getting an answer from me. Don’t waste my time.”

McCarthy has expressed his frustration with Pelosi after rejecting two of the House minority leader’s committee recommendations, as IJR reported.

In his response, McCarthy pulled all of his picks, saying, “Unless Speaker Pelosi reverses course and seats all five Republican nominees, Republicans will not be party to their sham process and will instead pursue our own investigation of the facts.”

The House minority leader then announced Congressional Republicans would conduct their own investigation of the attack, as IJR reported.

Pelosi doubled down on her decision to reject two of his picks. She said during a press conference, “It’s my responsibility as speaker of the House to make sure we get to the truth on this. We will not let their antics stand in the way of that.”

McCarthy accused Pelosi of destroying the select committee’s credibility. He said in a statement, “The Speaker has structured this select committee to satisfy her political objectives. She had months to work with Republicans on a reasonable and fair approach to get answers on the events and security failures surrounding January 6.”

He added, “Speaker Pelosi’s departure from this serious-minded approach has destroyed the select committee’s credibility. The U.S. Capitol and the men and women who protect it suffered a massive leadership failure. We must make sure that never happens again, and that is what Republicans will be focused on.”

Tuesday’s hearing featured testimony from four police officers who defended the Capitol on Jan. 6.
