The Daily Wire’s Candace Owens is suggesting that the United States and NATO members are “at fault” for Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine.
In remarks on Monday, Putin claimed that Ukraine is “historically Russian land” and that its government is a puppet of Western nations. He also reiterated his baseless claim that Ukraine is committing genocide. But his remarks were widely seen as containing a revisionist history of Ukraine and laying the groundwork for an invasion.
During his comments, Putin also said he would recognize the independence of two breakaway regions and claimed that Ukraine’s pro-Western government poses a threat to Russia.
Despite Putin’s claims Ukraine poses a threat to Russia, Biden administration officials maintain that his decision to order troops into the Eastern European nation is an unprovoked aggression.
However, Owens tweeted on Tuesday, “I suggest every American who wants to know what’s *actually* going on in Russia and Ukraine, read this transcript of Putin’s address.”
“As I’ve said for month [sic]— NATO (under direction from the United States) is violating previous agreements and expanding eastward. WE are at fault,” she added.

In a series of tweets, Owens pushed back against criticism, writing, “Spare me your ‘defending Russia’ nonsense. Remaining ignorant regarding grand scale politics which benefit NO AMERICANS other than the elites and their business interests in the region, plus the willingness to kill American sons and daughters to do it, is sickening.”

In a tweet on Friday, Owens suggested the U.S. should “STOP talking about Russia” and “send American troops to Canada to deal with the tyrannical reign of Justin Trudeau.”
