Police are offering a more than $20,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest of a suspect involved in a shooting after one person was left dead.

Jayda Medrano-Moore, a 16-year-old student from Duval High School in Lanham was shot as she was walking home from school, according to Fox5DC. The girl was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition where she was later pronounced dead due to her injuries.

The Prince George’s County Police Department (PGCPD) said it was offering a $25,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest in this shooting, according to a press release from the department.

“It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the loss of a DuVal high school student,” Prince George’s County Public Schools said in a statement posted to Facebook.

“I feel bad, because it’s just like, this girl is not going to be able to live her life,” one student said of the girl. “She’s not going to be able to graduate or anything like that….be able to have a family one day. It hurts me that they get that taken away.”

Medrano-Moore was shot a little after 3:30 p.m. near the intersections of Wood Stream Drive and Palamar Drive, about less than a mile from the school.

Police believe that Medrano-Moore had been walking by when a “dispute occurred between two groups.”

“Investigators continue to work to determine the circumstances of the dispute and the shooting,” the PGCPD said in the statement.
