UPDATE [04/24/23, 7:18 a.m. EST]: Nikki Haley responded after a Newsweek reporter reached out for comment on her dress. She wrote on Twitter on Friday, “This is why people don’t trust the media. Liberal ‘journalists’ spend their time harassing conservatives about outfit choices. Grow up, Newsweek. P.S. The dress was gold.”
Republican presidential hopeful Nikki Haley received backlash after she attended her daughter’s wedding in an off-white dress.
The mother of the bride, 51, posted a photo of herself in the dress next to her family, including her daughter Rena and her new husband Josh, on her Twitter page.
“We had the sweetest weekend celebrating Rena and Josh. Thankful for our sweet family and friends who joined us in supporting and celebrating them. Rena and Josh, we could not be more proud of both of you!” Haley wrote in the caption.
However, users on Twitter criticized Haley for her choice of color on the dress.
“Nimrata really wore white to her own daughter’s wedding. Lol,” one user wrote.
Nimrata was used in reference to Haley’s birth name.

Another user asked, “Why are you dressed like a bride at your daughter’s wedding?????”
Another user accused Haley of trying to overshadow her daughter.
“Ummmm why the hell are you wearing an almost white dress that easily could have been a wedding dress??? That was very selfish of you to try to steal her spotlight but given how much you want all the attention on you, it doesn’t surprise me,” the user wrote.
Another user wrote, “Did the mother of the bride wear WHITE.”
One user on Instagram complimented Haley under her photo but added that it looked like “they’re both wearing wedding dresses” which she noticed was “taking away from the bride.”
In February 2023, the former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations announced her run for president in the 2024 election.
In her video posted on Twitter, Haley stated it was “time for a new generation of leadership … to rediscover fiscal responsibility, secure our border, and strengthen our country, our pride, and our purpose.”
“Get excited! Time for a new generation. Let’s do this!” she wrote in the caption.
