Shortly after a new peace deal between Israel and the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.) was announced, National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien said President Donald Trump should be nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize.

“It’s really remarkable, I think, when you step back and take a look at what this president has done on the peace front,” O’Brien told reporters at the White House on Thursday.

He continued, “It wouldn’t surprise me, it’ll take some time in this environment, but it wouldn’t surprise me if the president’s eventually nominated for a Nobel prize.”

“Today’s work is an example of why he would be rightly considered and should be a front-runner for the Nobel Peace Prize,” he added.

On Thursday morning, Trump announced the peace deal between Israel and the U.A.E., which was brokered by the United States, as IJR reported.

In a joint statement, the leaders of the three nations voiced optimism that other nations in the region will make peace deals with Israel.

In addition to the Israel peace agreement, O’Brien noted the peace deal the U.S. signed with the Taliban earlier this year, which was supposed to bring an end to roughly two decades of war in that country.

However, the peace process has encountered some bumps in the road. The Pentagon recently raised concerns that the Taliban would not uphold its agreement to cut ties with Al Qaeda and prevent Afghanistan from being a safe-haven for terrorist organizations to plot attacks against the U.S.

He also noted the deal between Turkey and Kurdish fighters in northern Syria that was struck late last year.

That agreement came after Turkey began an offensive against the Kurdish fighters following the withdrawal of U.S. forces from the region. It required Kurdish fighters to cede territory in northern Syria.

After the U.S. withdrew from the region, lawmakers in Washington, D.C., accused Trump of abandoning allies.

However, O’Brien shared how he views those agreements will factor into Trump’s legacy, “I think history is going to remember the president for being a great peacemaker.”
