Alex Murdaugh, a disbarred lawyer from South Carolina, made an admission on the stand while testifying during his trial.

Murdaugh is on trial after being charged for the murder of his wife and son at the family property, Moselle, in Islandton, South Carolina.

While on the stand, Murdaugh said, “I did not shoot my wife or my son any time — ever.”

Defense attorney Jim Griffin then asked Murdaugh, “Is that you on the kennel video at 8:44 p.m. on June 7, the night Maggie and Paul were murdered?”

He replied, “It is.”

When asked if he lied to authorities about his whereabouts the night of the murder, Murdaugh said, “I did lie to them.”

Watch part of his testimony below:

#BREAKING: "I lied." Alex Murdaugh denies killing his son Paul and wife Maggie. He blames his drug addiction for lying to the police about being at the kennels.

Is he telling the truth now or is his testimony another lie?

He explained, “I wasn’t thinking clearly. I don’t think I was capable of reason, and I lied about being down there, and I’m so sorry that I did.”

‘Once I lied, I continued to lie … ‘Oh, what a tangled web we weave.’’

When asked if he continued to lie after the night of the murders, Murdaugh responded, “Once I lied, I continued to lie.”

He was then asked why he lied.

“What a tangled web we weave,” Murdaugh said, adding, “Once I told a lie — then I told my family — I had to keep lying.”

As CNN noted, Murdaugh previously told investigators he had gone to see his mother the evening of the murders and discovered the bodies of his wife and son by the kennels when he returned home.

He reflected on attempting to see if his son was alive.

“I don’t know why I tried to turn him over,” Murdaugh said.

He added, “I mean, my boy’s laying face down. He’s done the way he’s done. His head was the way his head was. I could see his brain laying on the sidewalk. I didn’t know what to do.”
