Former White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney is advising President Donald Trump to prioritize Georgia’s Senate runoff races instead of fixating on overturning election results.

Joe Kernen, co-host of Squawk Box on CNBC, mentioned an op-ed published by The New York Post telling Trump how he can still save his legacy.

He asked Mulvaney what his response to the op-ed is and what he would tell the president.

“You lose the Post, it’s time to step back and say, ‘Now wait a second, is this actually playing out the way that we wanted it to?'” Mulvaney said.

He argued, “Perception is reality and if that’s the perception of the last 30 days that The New York Post put out today, then clearly things have not gone the way that the administration wants it to go.”

Mulvaney explained the part of the editorial he agreed with most was the significance of the Georgia runoff races.

“I’m not sure who’s advising the president on this. I’m not sure what they’re telling him inside the building, but the number one thing the president can be doing right now, not only to secure his legacy but also to help defend himself for the next two or four years, is to make sure the Republicans keep those two seats in Georgia,” he continued.

The New York Post urged Trump to “end this dark charade” of trying to overturn the election and focus on Georgia’s runoff races, as IJR previously reported.

“We offer this as a newspaper that endorsed you, that supported you: If you want to cement your influence, even set the stage for a future return, you must channel your fury into something more productive,” the editorial board wrote.

It suggested “securing the Senate means securing” his legacy.

Georgia’s Senate runoff election will be held on Jan. 5.
