President Donald Trump is not giving up on his effort to overturn the election as he faces the rapidly advancing date for Congress to certify the election results.

On Sunday, his campaign filed a petition with the Supreme Court to reverse three Pennsylvania Supreme Court decisions related to mail-in balloting laws.

However, his former acting chief of staff, Mick Mulvaney, doubts the earnestness of the effort. During an appearance on Fox Business on Monday, he was asked by host Maria Bartiromo if the last attempt is a “potential win” for Trump.

“Potentially, sure,” Mulvaney said, adding, “But, I think we have to be honest with ourselves, no one’s been impressed with the results of the legal team up till now. It’s been run mostly as a PR campaign, it seems, not a serious legal inquiry.”

He continued, “I know the president’s going to continue to use every tool available to him. That’s to be expected under the circumstances for sure.”

However, he argued it is important that Republicans maintain control of the Senate so that there can be investigations into Trump’s allegations of widespread fraud in the election.

“I know a lot of attention goes to the legal efforts, but the political efforts are just as important if not more so at this stage,” he added.

Voters in Georgia will decide the balance of power in the upper chamber on January 5, when they cast ballots in a pair of special elections for the state’s two Senate seats.

Watch the video below:

Biden won the November 3 general election, and the Electoral College made his victory official after electors in all 50 states cast their ballots.

Despite the vote by the Electoral College, Trump has insisted it is “too soon to give up” on his effort to overturn the election and has continued to make baseless allegations of widespread fraud in the election.

The Trump campaign alleges that a series of decisions by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court “illegally changed Pennsylvania’s mail balloting law immediately before and after the 2020 presidential election.”

The campaign is asking the Supreme Court to rule on its petition before January 6, when Congress meets to certify the election results.

Biden won the state with its 20 electoral votes by roughly 81,000 votes. If the campaign were able to reverse the state’s results, it would still not be enough to alter the outcome of the election.

Biden secured 306 electoral votes to Trump’s 232.

It is unclear how well the latest challenge will fair. Since the election, the Trump campaign and supporters of the president have filed around 50 lawsuits seeking to challenge the results, and the majority have been dismissed due to a lack of evidence.
