MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” panel said on Tuesday that the stock market and border crossings have both improved since the Biden-Harris administration replaced former President Donald Trump.

Co-host Mika Brzezinski argued the Dow Jones Industrial Average’s (DOW) 1,000 point drop on Monday still left it 7,500 points higher than when Trump exited the White House on Jan. 20, 2021. The DOW fell 2.60% on Monday while the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq fell 3.00% and 3.43% after a damning jobs report revealed on Friday that the unemployment rate climbed to 4.3%.

“So people are that much richer who are calling Biden and [Vice President Kamala] Harris socialists,” co-host Joe Scarborough said. “So can I just, if they’re keeping score at home, the stock market is 7,500 points higher than it was when Donald Trump left office. Also, illegal border crossings are lower now than they were when Donald Trump left office. That’s all I have to say for now, it’s fascinating what a good job Biden and Harris have done and I’m looking forward to hearing about it on other right-leaning networks.”

Between Trump’s first day in 2017 and his last day, the S&P 500 climbed 67%, according to CNN. The S&P 500 finished the period at 3,798,91 and the DOW closed at 30,930.52, within 100 points of its all-time closing high, on the day Trump exited office as the global markets suffered from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Border crossings surged to record highs throughout the Biden-Harris administration. Encounters nearly exceeded 1.7 million in the 2021 fiscal year and soared above 2.1 million and 2 million in the 2022 and 2023 fiscal years, according to Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

Agents encountered over 400,000 migrants in the 2020 fiscal year and 851,000 in the 2019 fiscal year, according to CBP.

Border agents have encountered over 1.3 million migrants in the 2024 fiscal year thus far, according to CBP data.

President Joe Biden appointed Harris to address “root causes” of the border crisis stemming in Mexico and the Northern Triangle countries on March 24, 2021. Harris’ only visit to the border occurred in El Paso, Texas, on June 25, 2021 after receiving criticism from both sides of the aisle for traveling to Guatemala and Mexico before visiting the border itself.

Trump labeled the current market downturn the “Kamala Economic Crash” during a Saturday rally. Harris campaign spokesperson Ammar Moussa claimed Trump had “the worst jobs record” in modern history who shipped American jobs overseas after Trump blamed Harris for the market drop in a Monday Truth Social post.
