Monster hunters from around the world will gather in Scotland and online in search of the Loch Ness Monster.

Today in 565 CE, St. Columba reports seeing the Loch Ness monster. According to Adomnán, writing about a century after the events described, Irish monk Saint Columba was staying in the land of the Picts with his companions when he encountered local residents burying a man…🧵 pic.twitter.com/vKHlSv2sEv

The event, which is taking place over the weekend of Aug. 26 and Aug. 27, has been deemed “The Quest Weekend,” according to the Loch Ness Center. The website notes officials are “looking for a new generation of monster hunters to help uncover the truth, 90 years after famous sighting.”

The Loch Ness Center sponsors Loch Ness Exploration (LNE), “an independent and voluntary research team.”

This is expected to be the largest investigation since 1972, when the Loch Ness Investigation Bureau (LNIB) last scoured the area and searched for clues regarding the infamous “monster.”

The Ness Center stated, “Over the weekend, surveying equipment that has never been used on Loch Ness before will be enlisted to uncover the secrets of the mysterious waters.”

“This includes thermal drones to produce thermal images of the water from the air using infrared cameras, as observing heat from above could provide a crucial component for identifying any mysterious anomalies,” they added.

“Finally, a hydrophone will be used to detect acoustic signals under the water, listening for any Nessie-like calls, as well as further technology in the hunt for the truth,” the center concluded.

LNE expert Alan McKenna will brief participants from the Loch Ness Center on the morning of both days, per The Guardian.

McKenna commented on the event stating, “It’s always been our goal to record, study and analyse all manner of natural behaviour and phenomena that may be more challenging to explain.”

“It’s our hope to inspire a new generation of Loch Ness enthusiasts and by joining this large-scale surface watch, you’ll have a real opportunity to personally contribute towards this fascinating mystery that has captivated so many people from around the world,” he added.
