The son of Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Erik Swanson was airlifted to a hospital after he was hit by a car in Clearwater, Florida.

Four-year-old Toby Swanson was hit by a car near the Blue Jays’ spring training complex Sunday, the New York Post reported.

In light of his son’s injury, Swanson will be on leave for the foreseeable future.

“Thanks to the incredible work from the Clearwater first responders, Toby is on the road to recovery and is surrounded by his family,” Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider said and The Post reported.

He added Swanson will be away from the team “for a while.” Schneider lauded the players and their families who have shown their support for the Swanson family.

“Baseball is secondary when you are talking about family and life,” Schneider continued, The Post reported. “Family comes first. Our love, support and prayers are with Erik, Madison, Toby and the entire Swanson family.”

The Toronto Sun reported that police said Toby was hit “by a Ford Expedition near a hotel in Clearwater.”

He was airlifted to All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg and is in critical condition, according to the outlet.

Swanson and his wife Madison also have  a 1-year-old daughter Parker Kari, the outlet noted.

Earlier this month, Swanson posted a couple of pictures of himself and Toby walking through a parking lot where the spring training center is located.

“Put Toby through a full day of work at the field today!” Swanson added in the caption.
