2020 Democratic presidential contender Michael Bloomberg is known mostly for spending quite a lot of cash on his campaign and his latest push is to try to get the youths on board by partnering up with a company run by powerful Instagram accounts.

Bloomberg is working with a group called Meme 2020 that is led by a man named Mick Purzycki, who is also the chief executive of a company called Jerry Media that is hugely powerful in the world of influencers.

Jerry Media has faced criticism for stealing content and for the role that the company played in the Fyre Fest debacle — an exclusive music festival that fell on its face and sent one of its masterminds to prison.

The Bloomberg team’s so-called “meme campaign” began this week with doctored screenshots of entreaties from the Bloomberg team asking the influencers to make him look cool.

Here’s an example:

The character that Bloomberg and Meme 2020 has created is a sort of self-aware caricature of the real Mike Bloomberg. One of the posts reads from the Bloomberg team, “Can you post a meme that lets everyone know I’m the cool candidate?”

Bloomberg has spent millions on ads over the past few months of his short campaign. He even bought a 60-second spot during the Super Bowl, which is reported to have cost over $10 million.

But Bloomberg seems to be starting to get under President Donald Trump’s skin. On Thursday morning, Trump wrote on Twitter, “Mini Mike is a 5’4” mass of dead energy who does not want to be on the debate stage with these professional politicians.” In another tweet, the president opined, “Mini Mike Bloomberg is a LOSER who has money but can’t debate and has zero presence, you will see.”
