First Lady Melania Trump is celebrating her “Be Best” initiative on its second year anniversary.

On Thursday, Trump has released a statement to commemorate the monumental milestone. The initiative, which, in part, focuses on combating the opioid crisis, has made positive strides toward “a safe and more secure future” for children, as the first lady said.

“Today marks the second year since the launch of my Be Best Initiative. I’m proud of the work we have done to bring awareness to the many issues children face including online safety, opioid, and drug abuse, and the importance of their overall well-being,” Trump wrote.

Trump also shared details about the initiative’s future goals, vowing to focus on implementing positive solutions that will ensure a “secure future” for children.

“It is always inspiring to see the life-changing work happening every day within our communities and around the world. I will continue to promote positive solutions and advocate for the tools our children need to grow up with a stronger social and emotional foundation. Now more than ever, we must continue to work together and champion these causes in order to strengthen and protect our children and provide them with a safe and more secure future.”

She also took to Twitter with a quick overview of what the initiative has accomplished since it started two years ago.

“Over the past two years, [Be Best] has played a major role in spreading awareness, highlighting successful programs [and] acts of kindness, [and] encouraging public-private sector relationships to help children overcome the struggles they face every day,” Trump tweeted.

In honor of the initiative’s anniversary, Twitter users, including the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) Secretary Alex Azar, posted congratulatory tweets commending the first lady for her work.

“Thank you [Melania Trump] for the work you do as a champion for our youth,” Azar tweeted. “The compassion and encouragement you show to the young people of this country is inspiring, and we are especially grateful for your historic leadership on combating the opioid crisis.”

In addition to the Be Best anniversary, the first lady also joined a Zoom call in recognition of Teacher Appreciation Week. She had the opportunity to participate in the surprise video call with first-grade teacher Mrs. Jennifer Horton, and her class from Tomek Eastern Elementary School in Fenton, Michigan.

Trump ended the call with encouraging words about the importance of distance learning during this time of the coronavirus pandemic.
