U.S. First Lady Melania Trump plans to lead a “significant renewal” of the Rose Garden at the White House this summer, to improve the iconic location.

“The very act of planting a garden involves hard work and hope in the possibility of a bright future,” Trump said in a statement, along with the press release.

The plan is to “provide a renewal” of the original design, which is the “guiding blueprint” from 1962 established during the Kennedy administration.

“The refreshment of the Rose Garden will return it to its original ‘62 footprint and help ensure it will thrive with improved infrastructure, better drainage, and a healthier environment for plantings that reduce the risk of leaf blight,” the press release reads.

During the restoration, the first lady plans to include enhancements such as “improved Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility, utilities, and support for audiovisual and broadcasting needs.”

The first lady said of the plan for the renovations, “Preserving the history and beauty of the White House and its grounds is a testament to our nation’s commitment to the care of this landscape and our dedication to American ideals, safeguarding them for our children and their children for generations to come.”

The Rose Garden is where President Donald Trump has held some of his news conferences amid the coronavirus pandemic.
