First Lady Melania Trump stirred up controversy after she previously wore a jacket that read on the back, “I really don’t care. Do U?”

In June of 2018, Melania Trump sparked a lot of reactions and questions after she wore the green jacket with the writing on the back. She wore it on the way to and from her visit to McAllen, Texas, where she visited a detention center where immigrant children who were separated from their parents were held.

At the time, her spokesperson, Stephanie Grisham, said, “It’s a jacket. There was no hidden message. After today’s important visit to Texas, I hope the media isn’t going to choose to focus on her wardrobe.”

Even the president chimed in about the jacket, writing:

“I REALLY DON’T CARE, DO U?” written on the back of Melania’s jacket, refers to the Fake News Media. Melania has learned how dishonest they are, and she truly no longer cares!

And now, her former close friend and adviser Stephanie Winston Wolkoff is weighing in on the jacket.

Wolkoff appeared on CNN’s “New Day” Wednesday morning where she was asked “why” the first lady wore it.

The former best friend shared that Melania Trump said “nobody will be able to jump on me” because “Melania makes her own decisions.”

She added that the first lady wore it because she felt the media would not cover her “good deed” in visiting the border otherwise.

“That jacket was really the first representation of Melania going on her own and her office saying, ‘It’s just a jacket.’ It’s anything but just a jacket.”

“If she wants to do something, she’s going to do it,” Wolkoff later added. “And her messaging is as strong as Donald’s is, just in a very different way.”

Melania Trump tells @TomLlamasABC she wore the ‘I really don’t care’ jacket “for the people and for the left-wing media who are criticizing me. And I want to show them that I don’t care.” #MelaniaTrump https://t.co/EqEyfZkJvZ pic.twitter.com/2EWeCKB0de

Wolkoff wrote a new book, “Melania and Me: The Rise and Fall of My Friendship with the First Lady,” and she has suggested the Trump family is “filled with friction, suspicion, deceit, deception.”
