Meghan McCain took to Twitter to slam President Donald Trump after the president posted a tweet honoring prisoners of war (POW).

Trump tweeted on Thursday, “On National Former Prisoner of War Recognition Day, we honor the more than 500,000 American warriors captured while protecting our way of life. We pay tribute to these Patriots for their unwavering and unrelenting spirit!”

But McCain, who is the son of the late Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) quoted the president’s previous comments made in 2015 about her father: “John McCain is not a ‘war hero’. He is a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured, let me tell you.”

She added, “No one has forgotten this is how you honor POW’s.”

Except for the fact that you don’t like people who were captured – while publicly attacking the most famous modern POW while he fought cancer…. No one has forgotten or will ever forget what you said and did. No one. https://t.co/Yp8WdhuDch

In a statement issued on Thursday, Trump said, “I call upon Americans to observe this day by honoring the service and sacrifice of all former prisoners of war and to express our Nation’s eternal gratitude for their sacrifice. I also call upon Federal, State, and local government officials and organizations to observe this day with appropriate ceremonies and activities.”

Meghan McCain has become a household name after she became one of the co-hosts on “The View” where she frequently spars with her co-hosts.

Trump consistently clashed with John McCain when he was alive and did not stop bashing the Republican senator after his death. At a rally in March of 2019, the president claimed that nobody thanked him for McCain’s state funeral.

In an interview in July of 2019, Trump said of the Arizona senator voting against repealing Obamacare in 2017, “I was not a fan, I didn’t like what he did to health care.”

A number of Republican senators criticized the president for attacking McCain, including Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), who has become one of the most outspoken supporters of the president.
