Meghan McCain Tears Into Olympian Over Anthem Protest: ‘Not Appropriate or Patriotic’

Meghan McCain is blasting U.S. Olympian Gwen Berry following her protest during the Olympic track and field trials over the weekend, calling the demonstration “not appropriate or patriotic.”

During an episode of “The View” on Tuesday, Meghan McCain explained the difference between Berry and other athletes like Colin Kaepernick is that she is protesting internationally.

“If anyone just saw Vladimir Putin’s recent speech when he met with President Biden, he’s using the propaganda that America is an irredeemable craphole against us,” Meghan McCain said.

She continued, “We’re having our enemies and propaganda dictators using our own propaganda against us, which in turn, turns into a real national security risk.”

Meghan McCain then expressed frustration over the idea that “for some reason, my relationship with the flag isn’t allowed anymore.”

After telling a story about her father, John Mccain, and how that impacted her relationship with the flag, Meghan McCain blasted berry.

“I will die on this hill that it is not appropriate or patriotic to go to a foreign country where you’re supposed to be representing America and act like it’s just about you. It’s not about you. It’s about all of us,” Meghan McCain said.

During a White House press briefing on Monday, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki was asked about President Joe Biden’s position on the issue, as IJR reported.

Psaki told reporters Biden respects Berry’s “right to peacefully protest.”

She added, “A part of that pride in our country means recognizing there are moments where we, as a country, haven’t lived up to our highest ideals and it means respecting the right of people, granted to them in the Constitution, to peacefully protest.”

Berry responded to the backlash she received for her protest from other Republicans, saying, “I never said I hated this country! People try to put words in my mouth but they can’t. That’s why I speak out. I LOVE MY PEOPLE.”
