Meghan McCain, daughter of the late Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), fired back at President Donald Trump amid allegations about him referring to her father, a fallen war hero, as a “loser.”

Taking to Twitter, Meghan McCain wrote her reaction to the allegations detailed in a report published by The Atlantic. Recalling the painful loss of her father, she noted how “disgusting” the president’s actions have been toward her family.

She tweeted, “I just got through two years without my Dad a few days ago. The loss is still incredibly painful and raw. No one is more acutely aware of how vile and disgusting Trump has been to my family, it is still hard to understand – America knows who this man is…”

Meghan McCain described hearing reports about Trump’s rhetoric as “painful” and “triggering” as she offered prayers for her family and the country.

“This never stops being incredibly painful, triggering, and it rips off new layers of grief that wreak havoc on my life,” she tweeted. “I wouldn’t wish any of it on my worst enemy. I truly pray for peace for my family, our grief, and for this country.”

Meghan McCain’s remarks come amid heightened backlash the president is facing following The Atlantic’s report. Despite the claims, Trump has maintained his innocence. In fact, the president took to Twitter with a series of tweets as he offered insight on his side of the story.

As he acknowledged the differences he and McCain had, Trump claimed he never made the remarks he is being accused of making.

The president also insisted he never called McCain a “loser” as he blasted the “fake news” for the incriminating report.

“I was never a big fan of John McCain, disagreed with him on many things including ridiculous endless wars and the lack of success he had in dealing with the VA and our great Vets, but the lowering of our Nations American Flags, and the first class funeral he was given by our country,” Trump tweeted.

He later added, “Also, I never called John a loser and swear on whatever, or whoever, I was asked to swear on, that I never called our great fallen soldiers anything other than HEROES.”

….John a loser and swear on whatever, or whoever, I was asked to swear on, that I never called our great fallen soldiers anything other than HEROES. This is more made up Fake News given by disgusting & jealous failures in a disgraceful attempt to influence the 2020 Election!

Although Trump denies the current allegations, the latest “loser” remarks regarding John McCain are not the first. During an interview with Dan Rather back in 1999, Trump questioned if John McCain should be classified as a war hero since he was captured.
