President Donald Trump believes Attorney General William Barr should investigate Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden.

Trump told Fox News on Tuesday, “We have got to get the attorney general to act. He’s got to act, and he’s got to act fast.”

He also said Barr should “appoint” someone to investigate the matter.

During an interview with radio host Hugh Hewitt on Wednesday, White Hosue Chief of Staff Mark Meadows was asked if he had discussed the possibility of appointing a special counsel to investigate Hunter Biden with the president.

“I certainly have. You know, that’s not to suggest that there’s not an investigation going on now,” Meadows said. “Obviously, we could have, but for part of that aspect of trying to be neutral and not put our hand on Lady Justice’s scales, we have not looked into that, and in terms of what may or may not be happening now. And as you know, the FBI and DOJ, they don’t confirm whether there’s an investigation that’s ongoing or not.”

He continued:

“That being said, a special prosecutor being assigned is certainly something that has merit. It’s also something that has been considered. It’s not necessarily at the top of our priority list in this last 13 days, but as we’re looking at that, we think an independent special counsel might be the best medicine for this, not that anything would come out before November 3rd, nor should that be an expectation that any of your listeners would hear.”

Listen to the interview below:

Meadows stressed that his conversations with Barr have been focused on “making sure that whatever we do, that we do it with an impartial view.”

Along with Trump, House Republicans have pressured Barr to appoint a special counsel to investigate allegations that Hunter Biden introduced a Ukrainian energy executive to his father while he was still vice president.

Republicans also alleged that new emails, reportedly retrieved from a laptop that belonged to Hunter Biden, showed that the former vice president was involved in his son’s overseas business dealings.

Trump has seized on the new allegations, first made public by The New York Post, and said, “It’s the biggest story worldwide. It’s a corrupt family, and these people didn’t ask him one single question about it. It’s incredible.”

However, Biden’s campaign has denied the nominee engaged in wrongdoing, “Investigations by the press, during impeachment, and even by two Republican-led Senate committees whose work was decried as ‘not legitimate’ and political by a GOP colleague have all reached the same conclusion: that Joe Biden carried out official U.S. policy toward Ukraine and engaged in no wrongdoing.”
