A message White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany shared and a quote from Dr. Anthony Fauci are making a list of most notable quotes of 2020.

Yale Law School librarian Fred Shapiro gathered the quotes for the annual update to “The Yale Book of Quotations,” according to the Associated Press.

The list includes the quote, “I can’t breathe,” which George Floyd said to a Minneapolis police officer on May 25. Floyd died after a knee-to-neck hold for nearly eight minutes. The phrase has become a rallying cry across the globe against police brutality.

McEnany made the list twice, including when she said during a May 1 press briefing, “I will never lie to you. You have my word on that.”

During another press briefing on July 16, McEnany is noted for saying, “The science should not stand in the way of this,” in a push to reopen schools.

Fauci’s remark on May 21, “Wear a mask,” during a CNN interview topped the list of this year’s quotes chosen. Fauci was also listed in People magazine’s “People of the Year.”

See more of the notable quotes of the year chosen (which are not in order):

  • A statement from late-Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, which read, “My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed.”
  • Joe Biden said during a radio interview on “The Breaking Club” in May, “If you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t Black.”
  • Additionally, when Biden told a student at a campaign event in February, “You’re a lying dog-faced pony soldier.”
  • After the death of Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles Clippers coach Doc Rivers said in late January, “We are all Lakers today.”

President Donald Trump also made the list with notable quotes of 2020.

Speaking about the coronavirus in late February, Trump said, “One day — it’s like a miracle — it will disappear.” The U.S. and the world are still combatting the virus.

Trump also said at a White House Coronavirus Task Force news briefing in April, “I see the disinfectant that knocks it out in a minute, one minute. And is there a way we can do something like that by injection inside or almost a cleaning?” Experts tore into Trump for that remark.
