Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is congratulating Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) after surviving an attempt by Republicans to remove her from her leadership role after she voted to impeach former President Donald Trump.

“I want to congratulate Liz Cheney on a landslide victory – it must be very satisfying to her and it was a great win,” McConnell told CNN’s Manu Raju.

Mitch McConnell told me: "I want to congratulate Liz Cheney on a landslide victory – it must be very satisfying to her and it was a great win."

Asked if he had any concerns about the House GOP keeping MTG on committees. He didn't respond. He called her views a “cancer” this week

Republicans chose not to remove her from her position as the No. 3 Republican in the House by a 145-61 vote, as IJR reported.

After the vote Cheney said, “We’re not going to be in a situation where people can pick off any member of leadership.”

On Wednesday, she told CNN she “absolutely” did not regret voting to impeach Trump.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) defended Cheney amid the harsh criticism she was receiving, as IJR reported.

“I believe [Rep. Liz Cheney] is one of the strongest and most reliable conservative voices in the Republican Party. She is a fiscal and social conservative, and no one works harder to ensure that our military is well prepared,” Graham wrote on Twitter on Tuesday.

He continued, “Liz knows that a strong America is a safe America. She believes we must confront radical Islam and take the fight to them to ensure there are no more 9/11’s. In the eyes of many – Liz Cheney’s experience, leadership, and strength are invaluable to the Republican Party.”

McConnell was also asked by Raju about his concerns regarding the House keeping Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) on her committee assignments.

He did not respond.

In a statement on Tuesday, McConnell criticized Greene for her embrace of “loony lies and conspiracy theories.”

He called her remarks a “cancer for the Republican Party.”

Greene, in a closed-door House GOP meeting on Wednesday, apologized for her previous controversial comments.

She reportedly received a standing ovation.
