House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) says House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) should kick Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) off of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

“I think Nancy Pelosi should remove Omar from the Foreign Affairs committee,” McCarthy said during an interview with Fox News.

He claimed Omar is “an individual that has not once, but on numerous occasions been antisemitic.”

McCarthy told the outlet, “I will promise you this: If we are fortunate enough to have the majority, Omar would not be serving on Foreign Affairs or anybody that has an anti-semitic, anti-American view.”

He continued, “That is not productive and that is not right.”

Omar received backlash for seemingly comparing Israel and the United States with Hamas and the Taliban, as IJR reported.

“We have seen unthinkable atrocities committed by the U.S., Hamas, Israel, Afghanistan, and the Taliban,” Omar said. Axios noted she was referencing International Criminal Court investigations.

Pelosi and Democratic leaders appeared to denounce Omar’s statement, saying, “false equivalencies between democracies like the U.S. and Israel and groups that engage in terrorism like Hamas and the Taliban foments prejudice and undermines progress toward a future of peace and security for all.”

The House speaker later said during a CNN interview Omar is a “valued member of our caucus.”

When asked if people should move past it, Pelosi replied, “They can say whatever they want. But what I’m saying is end of subject. She clarified, we thanked her, end of subject. Whatever people go out and say is up to them.”

In a resolution “condemning and censuring” members of the “Squad,” three House Republicans mentioned Omar’s latest comments as an example of anti-Semitism, as IJR reported.
