House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) appeared to suggest classified documents at former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate were secure — because they were in a bathroom.

A reporter asked McCarthy on Monday, “Was that a good look for the former president to have boxes in a bathroom?”

“I don’t know. Is it a good picture to have boxes in a garage that opens up all the time? A bathroom door locks,” he responded.

The exchange happened days after Trump was indicted by Special Counsel Jack Smith for his handling of classified documents.

Smith hit Trump with 37 charges in the case, including 31 counts of willful retention of national defense information, one count of conspiracy to obstruct justice, one count of corruptly concealing a document or record, one count of concealing a document in a federal investigation, and one count related to making false statements.

The indictment alleges the former president kept classified documents in a bathroom at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.

McCarthy’s comment about a garage refers to President Joe Biden, who is also facing an investigation into his handling of classified documents.

In January, Special Counsel to the President Richard Sauber revealed the documents were discovered in a storage space in Biden’s Wilmington, Delaware, residence’s garage and another room, as IJR reported.

Fox News’ Peter Doocy asked, “Classified materials next to your Corvette? What were you thinking?”

In case you missed it:

Doocy: "Classified materials next to your corvette? What were you thinking?

Biden: "My corvette is in a locked garage."

The president said he would speak “on all of this, God willing, soon.”

“And by the way, my Corvette’s in a locked garage, OK? So it’s not like they’re sitting out in the street,” he added.

He went on, “People know I take classified documents and classified material seriously. I also said we’re cooperating fully and completely with the Justice Department’s review.”
