Cindy McCain says it is “frustrating” to watch as President Donald Trump continues to make baseless claims of voter fraud in the presidential election, while elected Republicans have been reluctant to call out his behavior.

Cindy McCain, the widow of the late-Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), was asked what she would say to Republicans who have not yet publicly acknowledged the results of the election. She said, “It’s so frustrating to watch this.”

“Because the election has happened. Elections have consequences. And unfortunately, the White House is seeming… to continue to gin up people with regard to this election,” she added.

She also said voters have to “remind people” that Biden won the election.

Finally, she said, “The fact that somehow we can gin up problems because [President-elect Joe Biden] won is ridiculous, the whole thing is, and it doesn’t do the democracy any good.”

Trump’s campaign legal team has continued to make baseless allegations of voter fraud in several states. The campaign asserts that the fraud was so widespread in key states that it could reverse the results of the election.

However, in the nearly three weeks since the election, the campaign has not produced evidence to back up its claims.

Since the election, Biden has been unable to begin the transition process as the head of the Government Services Administration (GSA) has not signed paperwork acknowledging him as the “apparent” winner of the election. That paperwork would allow the process to begin.

In the days after the election, Congressional Republicans were reluctant to say that Biden won and argued that Trump should be allowed time to pursue legal challenges.

However, as avenues for contesting the results narrowed over time, Congressional Republicans appear to be more willing to speak out and encourage Trump to at least allow the transition process to begin.

And after a federal judge dismissed a Trump campaign lawsuit in Pennsylvania, Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) said the president had “exhausted all plausible legal options to challenge the result of the presidential race in Pennsylvania.”

Additionally, he urged Trump to “accept the outcome of the election.”

During an interview on NBC’s “Meet The Press” on Sunday, Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.) said, “It’s past time to start a transition, to at least cooperate with a transition.”

“I’d rather have a president who has more than one day to prepare, should Joe Biden end up winning [the election],” he explained.

McCain endorsed Biden ahead of the election and is a member of his transition team.
