Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) compared the impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden to a “forever war.”

During an online Zoom fundraiser, Gaetz and Rep. Matt Rosendale (R-Mont.) denounced efforts from Republicans to launch an impeachment probe into Biden and expressed that it would “drag on” and “end in a bloody draw,” according to video footage of the event obtained by NBC News.

Steve Bannon, a former political adviser to former President Donald Trump, moderated the event.

“They’re trying to engage in a, like, ‘forever war’ of impeachment,” Gaetz said. “And like many of our forever wars, it will drag on forever and end in a bloody draw.”

“I don’t believe that we are endeavoring upon a legitimate impeachment of Joe Biden,” Gaetz told Steve Bannon, who was moderating an invitation-only fundraiser held over Zoom last week.

On Sept. 12, then-Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) directed the House to move forward with an impeachment of Biden, citing investigations and eyewitnesses who have testified that Biden lied to the American people about having “knowledge of his family’s foreign business dealings.”

“I don’t believe that we are endeavoring upon a legitimate impeachment of Joe Biden,” Gaetz said of the impeachment inquiry.

On Tuesday, Gaetz led the charge to remove McCarthy from his position as Speaker. In a historic vote, eight House Republicans and all of the House Democrats in attendance voted 216-210 to remove McCarthy from his position.

Rosendale also decried the impeachment inquiry into Biden and compared it to the indictment of Hunter Biden. Critics have labeled it as being a “smokescreen” in order to take attention away from more serious crimes Hunter Biden may be accused of.

“They’re doing the exact same thing,” Rosendale said during the event.
