Supreme Court Confirmation Hearing Doubles as Campaign Stop for Embattled Republicans

Fox Business host Lou Dobbs slammed Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) over the way that Graham has led the Senate Judiciary Committee. Dobbs went on to say that he does not know why anybody in South Carolina would vote for Lindsey Graham.

Dobbs began his segment on Friday by saying, “Just to be clear, I don’t know why anyone in the great state of South Carolina would ever vote for Lindsey Graham.”

He continued:

“It’s just outrageous. This is the guy who keeps saying ‘stay tuned.’ He said he was going to get to the bottom of Obamagate with the Judiciary Committee which has been a year and a half, actually longer, of absolute inert, inert response to these pressing issues to our day.”

Moments later, Dobbs recited a 2016 quote from Donald Trump about Graham in which Trump said, “I think Lindsey Graham is a disgrace, and I think you have one of the worst representatives of any representative in the United States. I don’t think he could run for dog catcher in this state and win again.”

Dobbs then announced that “Graham has betrayed President Trump at almost every turn. He has betrayed the American people and his oath of office. He’s done absolutely nothing to investigate Obamagate except to tell everyone ‘stay tuned.’ Time and time again, ‘stay tuned.'”

“Senator Graham needs to be tuned out in South Carolina.”

The Fox Business host’s remarks turned heads especially because of his proximity to the Oval Office. Dobbs frequently has Trump on as a guest on the show and the president has sometimes live-tweeted Dobbs’ show.

During a September press conference, the president mentioned that he counts Dobbs and other Fox News hosts among his main sources of information, telling reporters, “I watch Fox Business. I watched Lou Dobbs last night … You watch these shows. You don’t have to go too far into the details, they cover things that are— it’s really an amazing thing.”

Graham is fighting a tough re-election battle against Democratic challenger Jaime Harrison. The Cook Political Report recently moved the race from “lean Republican” to “toss up.” And with Graham a Democratic target in the Trump era, Harrison has pulled in massive amounts of cash. Last quarter, he raised more than any Senate candidate in U.S. history.
