Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wy.) is speaking out in support of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention director Dr. Anthony Fauci, praising his efforts to help the White House combat the coronavirus pandemic.

Cheney took to Twitter on Tuesday night with remarks about Fauci, insisting Americans should be thanking the top infectious disease expert for his work.

“Dr. Fauci is one of the finest public servants we have ever had. He is not a partisan. His only interest is saving lives. We need his expertise and his judgment to defeat this virus. All Americans should be thanking him. Every day.”

Cheney’s tweet came hours after Fauci’s testimony during the Senate hearing.

During the hearing, Fauci answered a series of questions about the White House Coronavirus Task Force’s efforts to mitigate the spread of the virus. He was also asked his professional opinion on whether or not states are ready to reopen.

“My concern that if some areas — cities, states or what have you — jump over those various checkpoints and prematurely open up, without having the capability of being able to respond effectively and efficiently, my concern is we will start to see little spikes that might turn into outbreaks,” Fauci said.

Fauci, who has advised six presidents over the last 30 years, warned of serious consequences to states skipping over the reopening guidelines and opening too quickly, as previously reported on IJR.

Dr. Fauci said the US does not have “total control” of the coronavirus pandemic yet.

“If you think that we have it completely under control, we don’t,” he told Sen. Elizabeth Warren in the Senate hearing on the White House’s response to the crisis. https://t.co/CaSFWqJw97 pic.twitter.com/3SZ91Wwbqg

He later added, “There is a real risk that you will trigger an outbreak that you may not be able to control,” which he said would “paradoxically set you back, not only leading to some suffering and death that could be avoided, but could even set you back on the road to trying to get economic recovery.”

While Fauci has admitted that they do not know everything about the virus and the administration does not have the virus completely under control, their advisory efforts are for the safety of the public.
