Liz Cheney Mocked Over Her Reaction to Actor’s T-Shirt Endorsing Her

WASHINGTON, DC - JULY 21: Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), Vice Chairwoman of the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol, delivers closing remarks during a prime-time hearing in the Cannon House Office Building on July 21, 2022 in Washington, DC. Committee Vice Chairwoman Cheney stepped into chairman's seat after Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) was diagnosed with COVID-19 and had to isolate. The bipartisan committee, which has been gathering evidence on the January 6 attack at the U.S. Capitol, is presenting its findings in a series of televised hearings. On January 6, 2021, supporters of former President Donald Trump attacked the U.S. Capitol Building during an attempt to disrupt a congressional vote to confirm the electoral college win for President Joe Biden. Twitter users are making fun of Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) over her reaction to a photo posted by a celebrity endorsing her.

On Monday, Cheney shared a photo of actor Kevin Costner wearing a t-shirt that says, “I’m for Liz Cheney.”

She responded in the caption, “Real men put country over party.”

Cheney’s tweet garnered several reactions.

Donald Trump Jr. wrote, “BREAKING: A leftwing carpetbagger from Hollywood endorses a leftwing carpetbagger from Virginia.”

Actor Adam Baldwin tweeted, “After you lose this year and are gone from elected office in January, where do you believe that T-shirt ends up?”

Washington Times columnist Tim Murtaugh suggested that “the funny part is that [Liz Cheney] believes that a Kevin Costner endorsement helps her in Wyoming.”

Neither served their country but both lecture those of us who did.

Kiss my ass. https://t.co/3S0JFmVnO9

Never been to Wyoming. Don't know anyone from Wyoming. I'm just gonna guess not one Wyoming voter looks at this and says, 'Gee, famous actor likes that weasel Liz Cheney. Maybe she's not so bad after all." https://t.co/w8juaXER7E

Boy will this backfire.

Liz is already going to lose, but while many fans love Costner and enjoy Yellowstone, who in Wyoming thinks he’s one of them? He’s from CA and is a (great) Hollywood actor.

It never ceases to amaze me how important Hollywood thinks it is. https://t.co/xf1cenI0KM

During a segment of Anderson Cooper’s show on CNN over the weekend, Wyoming voters were asked if they would back Cheney.

“Hell no!” a Trump supporter said.

She explained, “She’s done us dirty… look at how she’s done Trump. I’m a Trump fan,” adding, “She’s supposed to be supporting him. She’s a Republican, for crying out loud.”

Another voter said “absolutely not” when asked if he would vote for Cheney.

A third told the network she thinks Cheney had already had “three [terms] too many.”

Cheney has received criticism over her work with the committee investigating the January 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

The New York Times noted last month that Cheney “has emerged as the lead narrator and chief accuser, coaxing reluctant former officials to come forward, issuing stern warnings against witness tampering and drawing out the story one damning fact at a time to argue that former President Donald J. Trump betrayed the Constitution out of hunger for power.”

In July 2021, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) appointed Cheney to the committee.
