Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) is firing back at Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) after his call for her removal from her role as House Republican Conference chair.

Cheney appeared on “Fox & Friends” on Wednesday morning where she was asked about the intense House Freedom Caucus meeting that occurred on Tuesday.

Despite the reported criticism she faced from some of her Republican colleagues, Cheney noted the difference between their form of deliberation in comparison to the Democratic “cancel culture.” She insisted their exchanges are “healthy” debates and discussions.

“On our side of the aisle, it’s a healthy thing for us to have those kinds of debates and discussions,” Cheney said.

She continued, “I’m sure we’ll have more as things go along, but, the fundamental point here is that we’re unified in making sure that President Trump is reelected in November, that Nancy Pelosi is no longer speaker, that we take back the majority in the House and that we ensure that we hold the majority in the Senate.”

During the meeting on Tuesday, the Wyoming lawmaker was reportedly criticized for her support of Dr. Anthony Fauci and Rep. Thomas Massie’s (R-Ky.) primary opponent, as previously reported on IJR.

The Republican lawmaker’s remarks come amid heightened criticism from Gaetz along with Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas), Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), and Donald Trump, Jr.

On Tuesday, Gaetz took to Twitter calling for Cheney’s removal as the House Republicans’ Conference chair while accusing her of working against President Donald Trump “behind the scenes.”

He tweeted, “Liz Cheney has worked behind the scenes (and now in public) against [Donald Trump] and his agenda. House Republicans deserve better as our Conference Chair. Liz Cheney should step down or be removed.”

Despite Gaetz’s call, Cheney made it clear, she is not going anywhere.

Cheney said, “Whether or not we have debates and discussions internally as I’m sure … we will continue to do, we are going to be absolutely united going forward on the big issues, and I’m not going anyplace.”
