Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R) did not vote for President Donald Trump nor Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden ahead of the Nov. 3 election.

The Maryland governor revealed he voted for former President Ronald Reagan, according to The Washington Post.

He voted by mail last week, casting a write-in for Reagan “because he wanted to make a statement and felt he could in a state where the president is deeply unpopular, and Biden led a recent poll by 30 percentage points,” as the Post reports.

Calling Reagan his “hero in politics,” Hogan told the Post on Thursday, “I know it’s simply symbolic. It’s not going to change the outcome in my state. But I thought it was important to just cast a vote that showed the kind of person I’d like to see in office.”

Hogan said during an interview in September with C-SPAN, “I was a foot soldier in the [Ronald Reagan] Revolution…I was a delegate to the convention in ’80 and ’84. I was a chairman of youth for Reagan.”

He added at the time that Reagan is “somebody I greatly admired,” adding that the former president “had a positive vision for America” and “also really believed in bipartisanship.”

Hogan’s remarks come amid the speculation of a potential 2024 presidential bid for Hogan.
