President Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law Lara Trump was a leading figure in his reelection fight and as the president prepares to exit the White House, Lara Trump is rumored to be considering a Senate run in North Carolina in 2022.
Lara Trump, who is married to Eric Trump, was asked about the possibility during a recent Fox News appearance and told the hosts, “It would be an incredible thing.”
She continued, “It’s my home state, a state I love so much. And look, I think we need some strong Republicans in Washington D.C. We had a great run with the Senate and the House this go around, but let’s see what happens.”

The rumors that Lara Trump is considering a Senate run in the next cycle were first reported by The New York Times.
The president’s daughter-in-law led his reelection fight and was no stranger to controversy, accusing President-elect Joe Biden of cognitive decline during the Democratic presidential primary.
She was a key figure in Trump’s campaign during his first term in the White House. Former Trump aide Omarosa Manigault Newman said that Lara Trump offered her $15,000 per month to work for the Trump campaign if she would sign a non-disclosure agreement, and released an audio recording of a phone call with Lara Trump that she said corroborates the allegation.
The North Carolina Senate seat will open with the retirement of Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.), who announced in 2016 that he would not run again after three terms.
President Trump’s Chief of Staff Mark Meadows was widely expected to make a play at the seat. But Meadows recently shot down that suggestion, saying, “I love the people of North Carolina. But I not only have no plans, I have no intentions to run for the Senate in 2022,” according to the Raleigh News & Observer.
The former North Carolina congressman added, “I’ve had a number of people talk about running for that seat, if indeed Sen. Burr retires. My conversations have included some of the sitting House members as well as Lara Trump, and, to my knowledge, no one’s made a definitive decision on whether to toss their hat in the ring or not. But in terms of my hat, it won’t be in the ring.”
