Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) is calling Sen. Ron Johnson’s (R-Wisc.) comments about the mob that stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 “absolutely ludicrous.”

During an appearance on CNN, Kinzinger responded to Johnson’s suggestion he did not feel threatened during the insurrection but he may have if they were Black Lives Matter protesters and far-left “antifa” activists.

“It’s as ludicrous as it sounds. Officer Fanone who was the officer who was drug down the stairs… told shoot him with his own gun. He was beaten. He told me that there was, basically, real evil that day,” Kinzinger said.

He added, “He was beaten with Blue Lives Matter flags. Because of your political preference doesn’t mean it was any different on danger and by the way, Black Lives Matter has not stormed and occupied the Capitol as of yet. So, let’s just be realistic here. I don’t know what the senator was trying to say but I do think it’s absolutely ludicrous.”

Johnson said while speaking on “The Joe Pags Show” podcast he “never felt threatened” on Jan. 6, as IJR reported.

“Even though those thousands of people were marching on the Capitol were trying to pressure people like me to vote the way they wanted me to vote, I knew those were people that love this country, that truly respect law enforcement, would never do anything to break the law, so I wasn’t concerned,” Johnson said.

He continued, “Had the tables been turned, Joe, this could mean trouble. Had the tables been turned and President Trump won the election and those were tens of thousands of Black Lives Matter and antifa protesters, I might have been a little concerned.”

During a Senate hearing last month, Johnson raised concerns about alleged claims “provocateurs” and “fake Trump protesters” planned the insurrection, as IJR previously reported. He has since defended raising those claims.
