During a roundtable meeting with law enforcement officials, community leaders, and elected representatives in Kenosha, Wisconsin, President Donald Trump revealed the federal government is committed to rebuilding the city after a week of social unrest.

“We will provide $1 million to the Kenosha law enforcement so that you have some extra money to go out and do what you have to do,” Trump said.

He added, “It was a rough week, to put it mildly, and you’ve done it incredibly well.”

Trump revealed small businesses in Kenosha would be receiving nearly $4 million after they were “burned down” by protesters.

Over $42 million will be allocated to statewide public safety, including, “direct support” for police officers, funding for additional prosecutors, and resources for victims of crime.

Kenosha experienced a week of violent protests after Jacob Blake, a Black man, was shot in the back several times by a white police officer.

The White House announced Trump would be visiting Kenosha to assess damage in the city caused by the demonstrations, as IJR previously reported.

During his visit, Trump was asked if he believes systemic racism is a problem in the United States.

The president did not answer the question directly and said,” You just keep getting back to the opposite subject.”

He explained, “We should talk about the kind of violence that we’ve seen in Portland and here and other places.”

Some expressed their concerns with Trump’s visit to Kenosha including Kenosha Mayor John Antaramian and Rep. Karen Bass (D-Calif.).

According to Bass, the only purpose of Trump’s trip was to “agitate things and to make things worse,” as IJR previously reported.

Antaramian told NPR’s “Weekend Edition” on Sunday his preference “would have been for him” not to have come “at this point in time.”

Trump slammed Antaramian ahead of his visit to Kenosha and called him a “fool” for supporting “radical anarchists.”
