Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) is taking a shot at President Joe Biden for apparently shifting blame for inflation.

During an appearance on Fox News’ “Hannity” Wednesday night, Kennedy said, “Inflation…is the most pernicious tax imaginable. And the inflation we have right now is a direct result of ‘Bidenomics.'”

“President Biden has blamed it on everything but what really caused it. He’s blamed it on the war with Putin. He’s blamed it on Congress. He’s blamed it on unemployment. He’s blamed it on greedy businesswomen,” he continued.

Kennedy went on:

“It wouldn’t surprise me if President Biden stood up tomorrow and said ‘I’ve discovered the origin of inflation: It originated in a bat.'”

Finally, he said, “The truth of the matter is that what pushed us into inflation was the $1.9 trillion so-called Covid bill that was really nothing but the Green New Deal and welfare.”

Kennedy’s comments about inflation originating in a bat appear to refer to the World Health Organization’s belief that COVID-19 originated in a bat and was not the result of a lab leak.

Some scientists are reluctant, however, to rule out the possibility that the virus leaked from a lab in China.

In February, inflation hit a 7.9% annual rate, marking a 40-year high.

After the inflation report was released, Biden said in a statement, “Today’s inflation report is a reminder that Americans’ budgets are being stretched by price increases and families are starting to feel the impacts of Putin’s price hike.”

“A large contributor to inflation this month was an increase in gas and energy prices as markets reacted to Putin’s aggressive actions,” he continued.

Biden added, “As I have said from the start, there will be costs at home as we impose crippling sanctions in response to Putin’s unprovoked war, but Americans can know this:  the costs we are imposing on Putin and his cronies are far more devastating than the costs we are facing.”

Kennedy blamed inflation on Biden’s $1.9 trillion COVID-19 spending package that was passed last year.

However, Reuters notes, “The annual inflation rates for dozens and dozens of goods routinely purchased by American households – including food – were already at their highest levels in a decade before Biden entered the White House.”

“That’s in large part because of the COVID-19 relief spending enacted under Republican Donald Trump’s administration with overwhelming Republican support in the Senate,” it added.
