White House counselor to the president Kellyanne Conway is backing President Donald Trump while taking a swing at the World Health Organization (WHO).

“Some of the scientists and doctors say that there could be other strains, later on, this could come back in the fall in a limited way. This is COVID-19, not COVID-1 folks,” Conway said on “Fox & Friends.” “And so you would think the people charged with the World Health Organization facts and figures would be on top of that.”

According to the WHO, COVID-19 is named after the year 2019 as it was “previously known as ‘2019 novel coronavirus.'”

Conway alleged the WHO was not honest about the origins of the coronavirus and that it was human-to-human contact that caused the virus to spread.

Watch her comments below:

Conway’s comments come shortly after Trump decided that his administration will suspend funding to the WHO over its approach to handling the coronavirus, as IJR previously reported.

In a press release from the White House, Trump is demanding the WHO be held accountable.

“The American people deserve better from the WHO, and no more funding will be provided until its mismanagement, cover-ups, and failures can be investigated,” the press release reads.

He claims the WHO has shown a bias toward China’s government and that WHO echoed the Chinese government’s claim the coronavirus was not spread through human-to-human contact. Trump alleges the WHO opposed travel restrictions as well.

Conway defended Trump for implementing travel restrictions and accused the WHO of criticizing him for making that decision.

“That was criticized by the WHO. It was criticized by their people as xenophobic and racist and travel bans don’t work,” Conway said. “Well, this one sure did.”

The White House closes the press release by describing the structural issues the WHO faces and claiming the WHO was not prepared for the coronavirus.

“The WHO has shown it was not prepared to prevent, detect, and respond to a severe infectious disease crisis like this,” the press release reads.
