Former 2020 presidential hopeful Kamala Harris (D-Ca.) released a statement announcing her endorsement of former Vice President Joe Biden for president.

Harris tweeted, “I will do everything in my power to help elect him the next President of the United States. She continued in a video, “I believe in Joe. I really believe in him and I have known him for a long time…I am supporting Joe because I believe that he is a man who has lived his life with great dignity.”

Biden responded to Harris’s announcement on Twitter saying, “Kamala — You’ve spent your whole career fighting for folks who’ve been written off and left behind — and no small part of that alongside Beau. From our family: thank you.”

Biden and Harris have previously shared a few explosive moments during the Democratic debates. During one debate, Harris confronted Biden over his opposition to busing and having worked with segregationists in the Senate as IJR previously reported.

She also pointed out his mistake of saying he had the support of the only black woman elected to the Senate. He then corrected himself saying he had the support of the “first” black woman elected to the Senate.

When the news broke in December that Harris was dropping out of the race, Biden said he had “mixed emotions.” He continued, “She is a first-rate intellect, a first-rate candidate. I have mixed emotions about it because she is really a solid, solid person and she is loaded with talent.”

The California Democrat is the newest addition to the list of former presidential candidates that have endorsed Biden including former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), former South Bend, Ind. Mayor Pete Buttigieg (D) and former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas).

Biden is set to vie for delegates during Tuesday’s crucial Michigan primary.
