Vice President Kamala Harris was asked about her historically low approval ratings during her latest ABC News interview and whether or not she believed “race and gender” played a role.

Harris responded, “I think the point that has to be made is that there are attempts to create distractions away from the accomplishments of our administration.”

ABC News “reporter” @LinseyDavis to VP Kamala Harris on @ABCNewsLive Prime: “There are reports that say that you have the lowest approval of any Vice President. I’m curious how much of a role, if any, that you feel race and gender play in that?” pic.twitter.com/NYz7xE3uwu

Fox News reported that Harris has a 41% approval rating and that 56% of voters disapprove of her.

Before entering the White House to serve in the Biden Administration, Harris’s race was used to promote her during the 2020 Presidential campaign.

Newsweek ran the headline, “Kamala Harris Makes History as First Black Woman VP Nominee,” in August of 2020.

According to BBC News, other countries celebrated her nomination as vice president.

After the 2020 election, her race and gender continued to be heralded by outlets like Vox and CNN.

But in 2021, once her approval ratings dropped, along with President Joe Biden’s, per Bloomberg, the focus on Harris’s race and gender changed.

Instead of being promoted as an ethnic woman, her low approval ratings were blamed on sexism and racism.

During an interview with Politico, White House correspondent Eugene Daniels said, “There is obviously racism involved, and we know how women politicians are treated in this country.”

This is despite the fact that Harris was deemed the nation’s “border czar” and her role has been questioned by those concerned with the border crisis.

In 2021, she faced scrutiny for not visiting the border for months after being placed in charge of it, via Fox News.

In 2022, Harris was criticized for claiming that the United States southern border was “secure” despite the fact that nearly 4 million illegal immigrants had crossed the border at that point, according to the New York Post.

Now, in 2023, she continues to be criticized for her lack of border solutions.

Most recently, Rep. Mark Green (R-Tenn.), House Homeland Security Committee chairman, blamed the border crisis on the Biden administration, per the Washington Examiner.

He said, “Her own administration’s reckless open-border policies and refusal to enforce our nation’s laws have empowered cartels to take an unprecedented number of our sons’ and daughters’ lives with fentanyl.”

In addition, Rodney Scott, former Border Patrol chief and senior fellow for border security with conservative think tank Texas Public Policy Foundation, said, “The VP has not been a major factor in any movement in border security.”

Harris’s Twitter feed is full of declarations about “women’s rights” and support for minorities, but she has posted virtually nothing about the main area she is tasked with governing: the American southern border.
