2020 Democratic presidential hopeful Elizabeth Warren is garnering another endorsement — this time from a Democrat who recently dropped out of the race.
Former U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julián Castro ended his presidential bid on Jan. 2, where he “determined that it simply isn’t our time,” as IJR previously reported.
However, Castro isn’t sitting on the sidelines, as he decided to throw his support behind Sen. Warren (D-Mass.) on Monday.
In an announcement video via Twitter, Castro shared why he believes Warren is the best fit in the crowded 2020 Democratic field to take on President Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election.
“There’s one candidate I see who’s unafraid to fight like hell to make sure America’s promise will be there for everyone,” Castro said in the video, adding, “Who will make sure that no matter where you live in America or where your family came from in the world, you have a path to opportunity too. That’s why I’m proud to endorse Elizabeth Warren for President.”
As the two met, Castro told Warren that she is “summoning” the “energy of the people matched with a strong, positive vision for change in our country” — which he says is “going to take to win in 2020.”

“I’m not running for president just to go live in the White House,” Warren said in the video. “I’m running for president to make change for our families all across this country. To make change so that everybody has real opportunity in this country.”
Warren is among 13 other Democratic presidential hopefuls vying to become the Democratic nominee. Nationally, Warren polls in the third spot, behind former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), according to RealClearPolitics.
