“The View” co-host Joy Behar wants to know from White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre how the administration makes Americans believe issues they’re facing are not President Joe Biden’s fault.

“The case has been made that inflation is an intractable problem around the world. We talk about it here all the time, and not just in a crisis in the states but in the eyes of many voters, ‘the buck stops with the president,’ to paraphrase Harry Truman,” Behar said on Thursday.

She continued: “But with the president’s handling of inflation and the economy hitting lows in recent polls, how do you make the case to voters that his economic policies are working, that it’s not his fault, that inflation is a worldwide problem, that the gas prices are not Joe Biden’s fault? How do you do that?”

“Well, you just said it, Joy,” Jean-Pierre responded.

The White House press secretary then said the cost of gas prices and food increasing is a “global challenge,” which she says “a lot of that is connected to Russia’s war.”

Jean-Pierre declared the Biden administration was in a “dire situation” when it took over, saying, “When the president walked into the White House over a year ago, the economy was tanking, schools were closed, small businesses were shutting down.”

“Another thing he was able to do was pass the American Rescue Plan, his plan that only Democrats voted for and now you fast-forward to today, we do have some unique strengths, we do have a strong economy,” she added.

Additionally, Jean-Pierre said the U.S. economy was going through a transition, which will lead the country to “be more in a stable, steady growth, and that’s how we believe we’ll be able to fight inflation,” per Fox News.

This actually made me laugh out loud.

I&I/TIPP’s June survey showed 53% of Democrats placing blame on Biden’s policies for inflation. Thirty-nine percent said they were not to blame.

Inflation hit a new 40-year high in May.

Ethan Harris, head of global economic research at Bank of America, previously said, “Virtually every sector has higher-than-normal inflation. It’s made its way into every nook and cranny of the economy. That’s the thing that makes it concerning, because it means it’s likely to persist,” according to the Associated Press.

In May, groceries increased 11.9% from the year prior, and gasoline rose 49.5%. Airline fares, hotels, used vehicles, electricity, among others have also increased.

Gas stands at a national average of $4.94, as of Thursday, according to the AAA. This is an almost $2 increase from the year prior.

Regarding the president, Biden’s approval fell for the fourth straight week — hitting 36%, according to the Reuters-Ipsos survey published on Wednesday.

Inflation was below 2% for the majority of 2020 but began to rise above 2% in early 2021. Since then, inflation has hit over the 8% mark.

Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell was asked during a Senate hearing on Wednesday, “Given how inflation’s escalated over the last 18 months, would you say that the war in Ukraine is the primary driver of inflation in America?” as IJR reported on.

“No, inflation was high certainly before the war in Ukraine broke out,” Powell replied.

“I’m glad to hear you say that,” Hagerty said, adding, “The Biden administration seems to be intent on deflecting blame and as recently as just this past Sunday spread the misinformation that Putin’s invasion of Ukraine is the ‘biggest single driver of inflation.’ I’m glad you agree with me that that is not the truth.”
