Since several major outlets projected President-elect Joe Biden as the winner of the 2020 presidential election, President Donald Trump has refused to concede and instead filed multiple lawsuits in states.

Former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director John Brennan is weighing in on Trump’s refusal to concede in the election. Brennan was asked during Wednesday’s CNN interview if he ever thought in the U.S. he would see a president lose the popular vote so far, lose the Electoral College votes, and “still simply refuse to concede.”

Brennan responded that he did not believe he would ever see it, adding, “Clearly, Donald Trump is refusing to accept reality which is not shocking given what we’ve seen over the last four years.”

He continued, “This is something that, as you pointed out, can be very damaging to our national security because this period of transition from one administration to the other is critically important for our country.”

Additionally, Brennan said that the “sooner” Biden can access the president’s daily brief, “the more prepared he’s going to be to be able to confront these challenges” in the world.

“So why is [Trump] not doing it? It’s clearly just that Donald Trump is feeling angry and embittered,” the former CIA director added.

Biden said earlier this week of Trump’s refusal to concede, “I just think it’s an embarrassment, quite frankly…It will not help the president’s legacy.”

This week, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo received criticism after he said, “There will be a smooth transition to a second Trump administration.”

The inauguration of the President of the United States is set for January 20, 2021.
