Late-night show host Jimmy Kimmel is wondering if there’s a possibility the general election could be postponed, so he is asking former Vice President Joe Biden for an answer.

Like many Americans, Kimmel and Biden are conducting business remotely amid the coronavirus outbreak. So, they taped the segment remotely from their homes.

During the interview, the “Jimmy Kimmel Live” host asked Biden about the possibility of November’s general election being postponed. Kimmel wanted to know whether or not President Donald Trump has the power to order the postponement of the election.

“Is it possible that Trump could postpone the presidential election?” Kimmel asked.

Biden noted that Trump does not have the sole authority to postpone the election. However, that does not mean others will not begin making the same suggestion if the United States is unable to flatten the spread of the coronavirus in the coming months.

“No, he doesn’t have the authority to do that,” Biden said, but added that “it’s possible they may start a drumbeat saying it should be postponed.”

Check out Biden’s interview below:

Biden went on to share examples of historical occurrences, noting that general elections had been held during the Civil War and other major crises.

While the coronavirus has disrupted everyday life for many, Biden said, “Democracy and dealing with this crisis have to be able to be done at the same time.”

Biden continued to say that he envisions “more of what [Sen. Amy Klobuchar] has been proposing.”

Biden explained, “That is being able to vote early in your areas and by mail. I think we’re going to see more of that happening as well.”

Kimmel asked if Klobuchar was one of the women on Biden’s list of qualified female running mates for the vice president seat. While he did not answer the question directly, he did admit, “She is fully qualified to be a president.”

The general election is still scheduled for November 3, 2020.
