Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) spoke with former President Donald Trump on January 6 “more than once” — the day rioters stormed the U.S. Capitol.

After he and other lawmakers were evacuated and taken to a safe room on January 6, “Jordan was joined by Rep. MATT GAETZ (R-Fla.) for a call during which they implored Trump to tell his supporters to stand down, per a source with knowledge of that call. The source declined to say how Trump responded to this request,” as Politico reports.

Jordan told Politico he would “have to think about it” whether or not Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) participated in the phone call that day.

The Ohio lawmaker also told Politico’s Olivia Beavers, “Look, I definitely spoke to the president that day. I don’t recall — I know it was more than once, I just don’t recall the times.”

Jordan later confirmed he was “sure” that one of those calls took place in the safe room “because we were in that room forever.”

The Congressman did not specify what he spoke with the then-president about, but noted he wanted the National Guard to be mobilized.

A spokesperson for Gaetz told the publication, “Congressman Gaetz speaks with President Trump regularly and doesn’t disclose the substance of those discussions with the media.”

It was previously known that Jordan spoke with Trump on January 6, but now the lawmaker is making known he spoke with Trump “more than once.”

The House select committee investigating the January 6 riot plans to seek phone records of individuals on an “exhaustive list,” as Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) told CNN.

“I won’t tell you who they are. But it’s several hundred people that make up the list of individuals we plan to contact,” including lawmakers, Thompson said.

Jordan and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) spoke with Trump on January 6. Jordan previously said he would comply if the committee contacts him for his records, “I’ve got nothing to hide. I’ve said that along, I’ve nothing to hide.”
