Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) recalls speaking with former President Donald Trump on January 6.

During an interview with Spectrum News, reporter Taylor Popielarz mentioned comments made by Jordan about the matter to Fox News host Bret Baier on Tuesday.

The Washington Post notes Jordan said that he spoke to Trump on January 6 but “left some room for doubt” during the Fox News interview.

Seeking clarification, Popielarz asked Jordan, “First off, yes or no – did you speak with President Trump on January 6?”

Jordan replied, “Yeah, I mean – I spoke with the president last week, I speak with the president all of the time. I spoke with him on January 6. I mean, I talked with President Trump all the time, and that’s…I don’t think that’s unusual.”

He added, “I would expect, members of Congress, to talk with the President of the United States when they’re trying to get done the things they told the voters in their district to do.”

Do you think Jordan spoke to Trump during the attack?

Ohio's @Jim_Jordan confirms to me:

“I spoke with [Trump] on Jan. 6th."

Before, during or after attack?

“I spoke with him that day, after? I think after. I don't know if I spoke with him in the morning or not. I just don't know…I don't know when those conversations happened.” pic.twitter.com/h4fbuMYtk0

When asked if he spoke to Trump before, during, or after the attack on the Capitol, Jordan replied, “I spoke with him that day, after? I think after. I don’t know if I spoke with him in the morning or not. I just don’t know…I don’t know when those conversations happened.”

Jordan argued the ones “we need to speak to… are the ones who can answer the question, ‘Why wasn’t there a better security presence that day?'”

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) recommended Jordan serve on the select committee investigating the attack but was rejected by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

She said in a statement, “With respect for the integrity of the investigation, with an insistence on the truth and with concern about statements made and actions taken by these Members, I must reject the recommendations of Representatives Banks and Jordan to the Select Committee.”
