Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) revealed plans to seek the vacant seat of Speaker of the House in the wake of Rep. Kevin McCarthy‘s (R-Calif.) ousting.

Jordan, who serves as the Chair of the House Judiciary and is a member of the House Freedom Caucus, is the first Republican to officially announce his bid for the Speaker of the House, according to Politico.

“I support Jim Jordan for Speaker,” Rep. Thomas Massie (R- Ky.) wrote in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) has also reportedly been considering a bid for the speakership.

“Jim is a friend, and I certainly think he brings a whole lot that this conference would be able to rally around, but we’ve got to all have a conversation and I’m not going to say who I’m supporting at this point,” Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) told the outlet.

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) introduced legislation on Monday to oust McCarthy as Speaker of the House after the House passed a continuing resolution in order to avoid a government shutdown.

McCarthy was voted out of his position as Speaker of the House in a 216-210 vote on Tuesday.
