Actress Jada Pinkett Smith spoke out for the first time about her husband’s incident with comedian Chris Rock at the Academy Awards.

She explained during an episode of her show “Red Table Talk,” “This is a really important Red Table Talk on alopecia. Considering what I’ve been through with my own health and what happened at the Oscars, thousands have reached out to me with their stories.”

Jada Pinkett Smith added, “I’m using this moment to give our alopecia family an opportunity to talk about what it’s like to have this condition and to inform people about what alopecia actually is.”

Turning her attention to what happened at the award show, she said she hopes these “intelligent, capable men have an opportunity to heal, talk this out and reconcile.”

She continued, “The state of the world today, we need them both. And we all actually need one another more than ever.”

During the ceremony in March, Will Smith stormed the stage and slapped Chris Rock after he made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair loss.

According to Jada Pinkett Smith, until then, she and her husband “are continuing to do what we have done for the last 28 years, and that’s keep figuring out this thing called ‘life’ together.”

After the incident, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that Will Smith would not be allowed to attend the ceremony for the next decade, as IJR reported.

“For this, we are sorry. This was an opportunity for us to set an example for our guests, viewers and our Academy family around the world, and we fell short — unprepared for the unprecedented,” the academy said.

During a standup set at London’s Royal Albert Hall last month, Rock addressed the incident.

“I’m okay, if anybody was wondering,” Rock said.

He added, “Got most of my hearing back.”

Rock also said, “Don’t expect me to talk about the bulls***.”

He reportedly told the audience he would “talk about it at some point … on Netflix.”
